How to Apply For Grants

How can my organization apply for a Grant from the Chilliwack Foundation?

 

The steps for applying for a Grant from the Chilliwack Foundation are as follows:

Step 1: Ensure your organization is registered as a charity under the Income Tax Act (Canada)

  • Organizations applying for Grants must be registered as charities under the Income Tax Act (Canada) and must be capable of issuing a tax receipt for Grant funds received from the Chilliwack Foundation. A registered charity is one that has obtained from Canada Revenue Agency (“CRA”), a Federal Income Tax Exemption.
  • The charitable registration number issued by CRA to your organization must be included in your application.
  • Other notes:
    • Small non-registered community groups may interest a registered “Umbrella” organization in sponsoring their application for a Grant, and in that way provide the Foundation with a registration number.
    • The name and address and CRA Charity Number of the sponsoring body must be noted on the Grant application form.
    • Confirmation that the Grant was used for the purpose intended will be the responsibility of the organization applying for the Grant.

Step 2: Ensure your organization’s project meets the requirements for Grants from the Chilliwack Foundation 

The criteria for successful applications for Grants from the Chilliwack Foundation are as follows:

  • The project must be capital in nature and the application should not include requests for funds for the operations of the applicant;
  • The project must benefit a significant number of people;
  • The project must benefit people residing in the Chilliwack area;
  • Successful applicants should be reputable organizations with a history of stable governance;
  • The project must be feasible and practical in the view of the Committee;
  • Projects which benefit one or more of the four areas of focus for the Foundation, being the physical well-being of the community, education, culture and sports/recreation will be favoured.

Step 3: Complete the Grant Application Form (to download a copy of the form, Click Here)

When completing the Application Form for Grants, please note the following:

  • Applications must be completed using the Application Form attached (see link above). Other application forms will not be accepted.
  • Additional pages can be attached to the Application Form by the Application Form itself must not be modified.
  • Applications must be fully completed and include all required supporting documents.
  • Full contact information must be included, including mailing address.
  • Your organization’s charitable registration number issued by CRA must be included in the Application Form.

Step 4: Make Copies of the Application Form and Supporting Documents

Once the Application Form has been fully completed as set out above, you will need to make 10 copies of the Application Form and supporting documents before it is submitted to the Chilliwack Foundation.

Please ensure that the copies of the application form and supporting documents are collated so that each application form has supporting documents attached to it. Please clip or staple the copies of the application for and the supporting documents.

Step 5: Submit the copies of the Application Form and the Supporting Documents to the Chilliwack Foundation

  • Applications must be mailed or otherwise delivered to the address of the Chilliwack Foundation as follows: c/o MNP LLP Accountants, 45780 Yale Road West, Chilliwack, BC, V2P 2N4
  • Applications must be received by no later than 4:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on the application deadline. Late applications will not be considered.
